Wolf sculpture verse

The wolf in the rock

protecting its kin,

for harm to stop

from ambush will spring

Steadfast as the rock

the wolf Osbrella waits,

for Stirling’s foes to stop

then leaps to seal their fate

The sculpture depicts the Stirling Wolf, commemorating the 9th-century legend when wolves are believed to have saved the town from a Viking attack by howling and alerting the inhabitants. The wolf became one of Stirling's symbols and remains so today.

The landscape symbols within the sculpture base link the old town with the wider landscape and landmarks around Stirling.

The silver discs represent the Bawbees struck in the Stirling Royal mint.
